HISTORY OF THE PAROL
The Parol is an ornamental lantern customarily displayed during Christmas Season. It represents the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Three Kings to the Baby Jesus in the manger.
The Parol was first intoduced in the Philippines during the Spanish era. Its name came from the Spanish word “farol” which means lantern and later on became known as “parol”.
The parol is traditionally constructed with bamboo and Japanese paper. It is then illuminated with candles and oil lamps. Modern parols are made up of Capiz (scallop) shells with electronic light bulbs. Soon after, dazzling lights were introduced with the invention of the “rotor” that allowed the lights to dance. Today’s Parols feature bold patterns and tantalizing light displays that are made up of materials from shells to plastic to fiberglass.
Le Fortune Parols are meticulously handcrafted from Capiz shells that exhibit dazzling and mesmerizing lights that will truly brighten up a night in festivity.
